Podcast to Book to Press: Our Big Napa Announcement

We're back in Napa, where the Writers With Wrinkles podcast was born five years ago, with a new book and a new self-publishing press for writers. Every self-published author we've talked to says the same thing: it was a lot more complicated than they expected. We spent the last year learning why, and we want your manuscript to get out of the drawer with fewer surprises along the way. [00:00:00] Hi, friends. I'm Beth McMullen. And I'm Lisa Schmidt. And we're in the same frame- Ta-da! ... which is really weird. We're in the same place. We are back. with an announcement. So this is not a normal episode for us. This is something totally different, which you can tell because we're sitting here side by side, which never happens.

We have an announcement this is a very exciting day for us. And we're back where it all began five years ago. We're back in Napa. And oh my gosh. Yes, we're drinking. Cheers to us. Cheers. No, really, it's after 12:00- ... somewhere. This is where we hatched the plan for the podcast, which was five years ago.

It's in season five. we're almost done with season five, actually. We'll have season six kicking off very soon. We also hatched a couple other plans along the way. One is the book, Write, Revise, Publish: Essential Lessons from the Writers With Wrinkles Podcast, which we've talked about a little bit.

That book is now out [00:01:00] everywhere. You can buy it wherever you buy books. We love this book because it distills all the amazing knowledge that has been collected over five seasons of this show from our guests, from ourselves, from our reading, from just being out in the community talking. So we hope you pick that up.

Again, available everywhere that you buy books. But we also have something else that we hatched, because one big thing wasn't enough. We needed to add. . And we've been working on Writers With Wrinkles Press for the last year, and one of the reasons why we wrote the book is because we wanted to learn how to self-publish a book.

That's another good reason why we did it. I'm very excited for this because there's, there are tons of ways that you can publish a book now.

You can traditionally publish, you can self-publish, you can hybrid publish. There's just so many different ways, which we love because that means that there's just more stories being told. For some people, [00:02:00] traditional publishing is always gonna be an uphill battle. Your book may not fit what they're after in the moment.

Doesn't mean it's not a fabulous book and shouldn't have an audience. We wanted to take our own deep dive into the self-publishing universe and give that expertise to other people, because I will tell you something about self-publishing that we know now, is that it's pretty complicated if you wanna do it correctly.

There's a lot of little things that are surprising, shall we say, and everybody that we've spoken to who has self-published a book has the same opinion. Like, wow, that was a lot more crazy than I thought it was gonna be. We wanna offer all the hard-won lessons that we've learned to people out there who are thinking that this might be a path they wanna take.

So we encourage you, go to the website, writerswithwrinklespress.com. Check it out. Fire us off your questions. You can book a phone call if you'd like. We are actual people doing the actual work. we're not AI bots. We're actually physically human beings [00:03:00] doing the behind-the-scenes work on these projects.

We hope that you get in touch with us with your thoughts and concerns about whatever it is you are planning for your book or your manuscript, that one that's sitting there looking at you going, "Are we ever gonna do anything with me? What's happening?"

It's exciting. we've been, splashing it all over media today. I'm sure there's people on there, "Enough already. Enough. Please stop." Never enough. we're on Goodreads, so if you'd like to go add us to your Goodreads shelf, that would be great.

And we're here to answer questions. We just love writers, and we wanna get your stories out into the world. So yes, please reach out. We encourage you to visit the site. writerswithwrinklespress.com.

We hope we have five more years of podcasting. So we will see you next time with a proper episode. And until then, thanks for listening
